Pulfer Holistic Therapies

Reiki Leeds

Reiki is a form of energy-based healing working on the principle of a universal life force/energy. The Reiki practitioner is a vehicle for this life force/energy/qi and through the use of symbols and the placing of hands on the body they can help direct the energy to the greatest good of the individual. The benefits of Reiki vary from person to person and treatment to treatment, sometimes you may feel euphoric and light, other times you may feel grounded.

The treatment is performed fully clothed with the client lying on the massage couch usually under a blanket in order to be warm and comfortable.

Reiki as we know it was first recorded in 1922 by the Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. It has since moved from Japan into the rest of the world.

For many, the term Reiki means ‘universal life force’, ‘ki’ or ‘qi’ being the life force and energy which flows in all living things. Bringing the two (universal energy and personal energy) together, we are seeking to assist a natural, non-invasive, self-healing process and restore body equilibrium. During a Reiki session you may feel deeply calm and relaxed. You may wish to laugh out loud, or even cry for no apparent reason. All of this is fine, and part of the natural flow within you.

Reiki works on all levels of our being which goes a long way to explaining the vast range of sensations that can be felt throughout a session. Each session is individual to you, and how you are feeling on that day and so how you feel after Reiki will also vary from session to session.

The practitioner will place their hands on (or hover slightly above) your body, generally over areas relating to major organs and energy centres (chakras) of the body. You remain fully clothed throughout, covered by a blanket to keep warm.

Often, when a particular part of you is in need of a boost or clear-out the practitioners’ hands may rest over that location for a longer period of time directing Reiki to where it is needed. You may feel heat, cold or tingling in your body, this is the energy flow being stimulated. Reiki goes to the greatest good of the receiver, the practitioner is a vehicle for the energy/life force.

Reiki practitioners are attuned; this is what enables us to act as a vehicle for universal life force, so to carry out sessions. You can be attuned to different levels: I, II, Master & Teacher, the difference at each level is the strength of the energy which passes through you to promote the self-healing of another.

Please note, as with other Holistic and Complementary Therapies, they are intended as part of a wellness regime and never as a substitute for medical advice or treatment.

What clients say

I started going to Amy for Reiki after suffering from reoccurring anxiety issues. Amy has provided me with a space in which I can switch my thoughts off, and allow myself to relax. Amy, and the Reiki sessions have been invaluable in helping me get back on track to a better state of mind
