Pulfer Holistic Therapies

Reiki Leeds

Reiki is a form of energy-based healing, it can help to promote the body’s natural healing systems by allowing the body to relax and self-heal.

Energy is all around us and in everything, it is intelligent and can be used to maintain and enhance our natural wellbeing. The benefits of Reiki vary from person to person and treatment to treatment. You may feel euphoric and light and at other times you may feel grounded and focused.

Sessions can be performed fully clothed lying down on a massage couch or in a seated position. Read more details about the therapy and what to expect below. Appointments are held in my therapy room at Premier House, Garforth, Leeds.

A Brief Introduction to Reiki

First recorded and used in the 1920s by the Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui, Reiki has now spread and is practiced worldwide. It is said that, whilst undergoing a period of training at a monastery near Mount Kurama, Usui experienced an event that brought him to Reiki. He took Reiki to hospitals in Japan and then began to teach the method of healing to others. His students who have spread his teachings around the world.

The term Reiki means ‘universal life force’, ‘ki’ or ‘qi’. This refers to the life force and energy which flows in and around all living things – think Kung Fu Panda if you have seen the films. Bringing the universal energy and personal energy together we are seeking to assist a natural, non-invasive, self-healing process restoring the body’s natural equilibrium. When in this state of equilibrium and relaxation the body is in the best position to self-repair.

Reiki practitioners are attuned and have spent time learning the traditions and methods of Reiki healing. You can be attuned to different levels: I (for personal benefits), II (to benefit others), Master & Teacher.

What to Expect with Reiki Leeds

When you come for your appointment we will complete a short consultation. We talk about your reason for booking and fill in a short form. This helps us to get the most from your appointment. After this you’ll be asked to position yourself comfortably on the treatment couch and will be covered with a comfy blanket to keep warm or a thin sheet if it’s hot!

The practitioner will place their hands on (or hover slightly above) your body, generally over areas relating to major organs and energy centres (chakras) of the body. You remain fully clothed throughout and may be asked to turn over so hand placements can be made on your back. During an appointment you may feel deeply calm and relaxed. You may wish to laugh out loud, or even cry for no apparent reason. All of this is fine, and part of the natural energy flow within you.

Reiki works on all levels, that being our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self. This explains why there is such a vast range of sensations that can be felt. Each session is individual to you, and how you are feeling on that day. How you feel after Reiki will also vary.

Often, when a particular part of you is in need of a boost or clear-out the practitioners’ hands may rest over that area for a longer period of time. This directs Reiki to where it is needed. You may feel heat, cold or tingling in your body, this is the energy flow being stimulated. The energy is intelligent and directs itself to the greatest good of the receiver, the practitioner is simply a vehicle for channeling universal energy.

Please note, as with other Holistic and Complementary Therapies, they are intended as part of a wellness regime and never as a substitute for medical advice or treatment.
